@Mike Smedley you can definitely do it, I do it on a regular basis. Yes there’s a tonne of rubbish that you need to take care of in HTML emails, but catering for all browsers isn’t so hard once you get a checklist.

Outlook is a pain, but make sure you use inline CSS and you can do it (use inliner).

We’re regularly having to send out “bulk” emails, we always seem to have trouble with background colours for things though, especially in Outlook 2007, so we try and keep image use to a minimum – we’ve also had instances where any color styling is stripped out by email filters (I think they add a defanghtml tag or something), so I’ve basically found that designing a perfect email template is definately a fine art!!!

Good article though, must admit I never thought of doing any of the suggested!!
